State income task forms can be obtained form the State Franchise Tax Board Office, 300 South Spring Street, downtown LA, or by calling 800-852-5711, www.ftb.ca.gov. The Franchise Tax Board office is open form 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. As with federal forms, your local post office or library may have state forms as well.
The Franchise Tax Board is the department that administers personal income taxes and corporation taxes for the State of California. The board’s web site has a taxpayer advocate line that provides information on taxpayers’ rights and how to request the assistance of an advocate: www.ftb.ca.gov.
In California, a sales tax is imposed on retail sales or consumption of personal property (fast-food, snacks, etc.). Statewide, the sales tax is 7.25%, but LA County tacks on an additional 1% for the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
